Media Tips
- Look at websites for your local newspaper, television stations, and radio stations to gather the contact information for feature, community calendar, and arts editors and writers. You may also search through your local newspaper to decide which writer or editor would most likely be interested in covering your reading (because they cover similar topics). Don't forget to contact your local ethnic press and media outlets as well.
- Email, snail mail or faxing are great avenues to send information about your local reading to your local media.
- Send media releases twice for daily media: One to two weeks before your reading and the other the week of your reading. You want to make sure your information is not lost and is on the local media's radar.
- If your local newspaper is bi-weekly, be sure to send your releases one to two weeks before their printing date (you may want to call to ask about the best date and contact).
- After sending the releases, call to follow up. See if the contacts received the information, if they need any other details or have any questions about your event.
